Advance Global Recruitment (AGR) is pleased to announce a strategic enhancement to its compliance function in the Middle East, reinforcing its commitment to strong governance, operational excellence, and responsible growth across the energy sector.

As part of this development, Danielle Wood, Global Compliance Director at AGR, will be relocating to Dubai. Danielle will continue to manage and oversee compliance on a global level, while her presence in the UAE will allow her to work more closely with the regional team. This will support the consistent application of global standards, ensure alignment with local regulatory requirements, and strengthen operational support across the Middle East.

Danielle’s relocation also supports the wider Dulsco Group through increased collaboration and knowledge sharing. By bringing deep global compliance expertise and insights gained across multiple markets, she will contribute to the ongoing development of compliance practices across the diverse industries served by the Group, fostering a more connected and informed approach to governance.

As regulatory frameworks continue to evolve across regions, maintaining strong, consistent compliance structures remains a priority. This move reflects AGR’s proactive approach to supporting its clients, teams, and partners through well-governed and future-focused operations.

Stuart Hunter, CEO of Advance Global Recruitment, commented:

“As our presence in the Middle East continues to grow, it’s essential that our compliance leadership remains closely aligned with regional operations. Danielle’s relocation to Dubai allows her to continue managing our global compliance framework while strengthening collaboration and knowledge exchange across AGR and the wider Group.”

By enhancing compliance leadership locally while maintaining global oversight, AGR continues to support sustainable growth in the UAE’s energy sector and reinforce its role as a trusted recruitment partner across the Middle East and international markets.

Recruiting in the subsea sector is highly competitive. Finding and placing the right specialists is not just about filling roles; it is about standing out in a global talent market that is small, specialised and constantly evolving. Over time, I have learned that the recruiters who truly make an impact are those who go beyond the obvious.

Become a Trusted Advisor, Not Just a Recruiter Subsea clients do not just want CVs; they want insights into talent availability, skills trends and potential future gaps. By understanding the industry deeply, anticipating where talent will be needed next and guiding clients strategically, you position yourself as an essential partner rather than a transactional service provider.

Build a Global Network The best subsea talent is not always in the same country as the project. By cultivating strong relationships across regions and understanding the nuances of relocating or deploying specialists internationally, you create a reach that competitors cannot easily replicate.

Invest in Candidate Experience Specialists remember recruiters who support them through every step, preparing them for interviews, offering insights into company culture, and providing opportunities for training and upskilling to strengthen their skills for offshore or international assignments. A positive candidate experience builds your reputation and creates long-term relationships that pay dividends across multiple projects.

Leverage Data and Market Intelligence Recruitment decisions backed by insights, such as emerging skill shortages, salary benchmarks and regional supply-demand trends, allow you to advise clients proactively. Being seen as a source of knowledge builds credibility and sets you apart from recruiters who react rather than anticipate.

Align Talent Solutions with Industry Evolution Subsea projects are diversifying into renewables, carbon capture and offshore infrastructure. Helping clients access specialists who are prepared for these emerging sectors signals that you are not just filling roles; you are future-proofing their workforce.

In a sector as specialised as subsea, the recruiters who make the greatest impact are those who combine insight, foresight and genuine care for both clients and candidates. Standing out is not about doing more; it is about doing it smarter, globally and with purpose.

Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to lead drilling recruitment operations around the world through my role at Advance Global Recruitment Ltd . What I’ve seen is that the recruitment landscape in the drilling sector is evolving rapidly.

It’s about strategic workforce planning, global mobilisation, compliance, and ensuring that the right people are in the right place at exactly the right time.

At AGR, we support some of the world’s largest drilling contractors with contract and permanent personnel, and through that, we’ve developed a deep understanding of the industry’s real pain points.

Here are six key insights I believe every project leader should consider when it comes to drilling recruitment in 2025:

1. It’s a global workforce but local insight matters.

Clients expect fast turnaround, but without a firm grasp of local compliance, tax laws, and logistics, things can quickly unravel. AGR operates in 75+ countries, and our strength lies in understanding how to mobilise crews compliantly and efficiently in any region.

2. Experience Still Reigns Supreme

There’s no substitute for tried-and-tested personnel. That’s why we focus not only on sourcing the right talent but also on retention, re-engagement, and upskilling. Through targeted training programs, we ensure our personnel enhance their expertise and develop transferable skills that enable them to excel across multiple industries.

3. Travel and logistics are now mission-critical.

With project timelines tightening, delays in crew travel can be costly. At AGR, our Travel & Logistics team works alongside our recruiters to ensure crew changes happen without disruption, reducing downtime and keeping operations on track.

4. Payroll and compliance are non-negotiables.

In high-risk environments like drilling, having fully compliant and correctly paid personnel isn’t just good practice, it protects your reputation. AGR partners with trusted payroll providers to deliver compliant solutions.

5. Relationships are still everything.

Recruitment may be changing with increasing technology, but the value of long-term, trusted partnerships hasn’t. AGR has grown by investing in genuine relationships with clients and candidates, and in an industry as dynamic as drilling, that trust makes all the difference.

6. Localisation and upskilling local talent

Investing in local talent isn’t just a regulatory requirement — it’s a strategic advantage. By identifying, training, and developing local personnel, we ensure projects benefit from skilled, motivated teams who can perform at international standards while contributing to workforce sustainability and regional growth.

The drilling sector demands speed, precision, and experience, and the same should be expected from your recruitment partner.

At AGR we’re proud to support the sector with a 360-degree recruitment solution, from sourcing and mobilisation to compliance and crew support.

I’m always open to connecting with others in the industry to share ideas and discuss how we can work smarter in 2025 and beyond.

This year marks a significant milestone for AGR Senior Client Consultant Samantha Wood, who is celebrating 10 years of success in energy recruitment. To celebrate this achievement, we sat down with Samantha to reflect on her journey at AGR, the key lessons she has learned, and the insights she has gained over the past decade in the industry.

Her experience highlights the evolution of energy recruitment, the importance of building strong relationships, and the ever-changing landscape of talent acquisition in the sector. Samantha’s dedication, expertise, and commitment to delivering the best solutions for clients and candidates have played a vital role in AGR’s ongoing success.

Can you share a bit about your background before joining the industry? What led you to take the leap into recruitment?

After spending nine years working in a supermarket, I knew it was time for a change. While the role had given me invaluable experience in customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving, I felt the need for something new—something that would challenge me in different ways and open new doors.

That’s when an acquaintance introduced me to Stuart, who had recently founded AGR and was looking to grow his team. Recruitment wasn’t something I had considered before, but after learning more about the energy sector and the opportunities within it, I decided to take the leap.

Joining AGR has been a game-changer. The fast-paced nature of recruitment, the chance to connect talented individuals with exciting career opportunities, and the ability to be part of a growing business have all been incredibly rewarding. The transition from retail to recruitment wasn’t without its challenges, but the skills I developed—communication, resilience, and adaptability—proved to be just as valuable in this new role.

What has been the most rewarding part of your day-to-day job at AGR?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role as a Senior Client Consultant is the opportunity to help people secure meaningful employment in the oil and gas industry—not just locally, but all over the world. Every day, I get to connect skilled professionals with opportunities that align with their expertise, career aspirations, and personal goals.

The energy sector is dynamic and ever evolving, and I take great pride in being part of an industry that plays such a crucial role in the global economy. Whether it’s helping someone land their first role in oil and gas or assisting an experienced professional in taking the next step in their career, knowing that my work has a real, positive impact on people’s lives is incredibly fulfilling.

Beyond placements, it’s about building relationships, offering guidance, and providing support throughout the hiring process—from the first conversation to the moment they start their new role. Seeing candidates thrive in their new positions and knowing I played a part in their journey is what makes this job truly special.

What are you most proud of about yourself throughout your journey at AGR?

One of the things I am most proud of in my career is how I have worked my way up from a Candidate Coordinator to a Senior Client Consultant. It has been a journey of hard work, continuous learning, and perseverance, proving that focus and dedication truly open doors to great opportunities.

When I first started in recruitment, I had no idea how much I would grow—not just in my role but as a professional. I embraced every challenge, learned from every experience, and stayed committed to developing my skills. Each step forward has been a testament to the fact that progress is possible when you stay determined and put in the effort.

But beyond personal achievements, what means the most to me is setting an example for my daughter. I want her to see that no matter where you start, with the right mindset and work ethic, you can achieve anything. I hope my journey shows her that success isn’t about luck—it’s about resilience, dedication, and always striving to be better.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing, taking on new challenges, and helping others on their career paths—just as I have carved out my own.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in recruitment in the energy industry?

If you’re considering a career change—go for it! You never know where it might lead. Taking that leap was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and recruitment has turned out to be one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had.

From the opportunity to travel the world to building relationships with industry professionals, hiring managers, and candidates, this role has opened doors I never imagined. It has also given me the chance to learn and grow in a sector I initially knew nothing about—proof that with the right mindset, you can succeed in any industry.

My biggest advice? Ask as many questions as possible and never be afraid to speak up when you don’t know something. Your team is there to support you, and the more you learn, the more confident you’ll become.

Change can be daunting, but sometimes, the best opportunities come from stepping outside your comfort zone.

What motivates you when faced with tough situations in your role?

Like any job, recruitment comes with its challenges—tight deadlines, unexpected setbacks, and moments where things don’t go as planned. But when I face tough situations, I remind myself why I do this and who I do it for—my daughter.

She is my biggest motivation. Knowing that I’m working hard to build a better future for her keeps me pushing forward, even when things get difficult. I want her to see that challenges aren’t roadblocks—they’re stepping stones to growth.

Looking back, if you could give your younger self a piece of advice at the start of your career, what would it be?

Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.

Change can be intimidating, and there will be moments of doubt, but growth happens when you push yourself beyond what feels familiar. Take every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and challenge yourself—even when it feels uncomfortable. The setbacks and tough days will come, but they’ll only make you stronger.

Most importantly, trust the process. Every role, every experience, and every challenge is shaping you into the person you’re meant to become. Stay focused, stay resilient, and always remember why you started.

As we celebrate this achievement, we extend our gratitude to Samantha for her hard work and contributions. We look forward to seeing what the next decade brings for her and for AGR as we continue to grow and lead in energy recruitment.

At Advance Global Recruitment (AGR), we are committed to the growth and development of our employees. We understand that ongoing learning is essential to building a strong and reliable workforce.

One of the ways we showcase this commitment is by supporting our employees through education opportunities. Most recently, one of our Training Coordinators, Yasmin Park, has recently began a Graduate Apprenticeship in Business Management at Robert Gordon University. This four-year programme blends academic theory with practical, work-based learning. This gives Yasmin the opportunity to gain a BA Honours Degree while continuing her role at AGR.

The course combines online study with immediate, real-world application. This will allow Yasmin to further her business management skills while also contributing to our team. In order to participate in this programme, employers must provide a supportive work environment, mentoring, and collaboration with the university to ensure the apprentice meets all of the necessary learning outcomes. AGR is proud to partner in this journey, offering Yasmin the guidance and tools she needs to succeed.

Yasmin’s commitment to AGR and the industry has been unwavering, and we are excited to support her as she takes this important step in her career. Yasmin is dedicated to her professional growth and AGR are as equally dedicated to supporting her development. This apprenticeship represents a mutually beneficial commitment, with both Yasmin and AGR gaining valuable skills and experience along the way.

By investing in Yasmin’s future, we are also investing in the future of AGR. We believe that when our employees grow, so do we and we are excited to see where this journey takes us.

Ensure your success: Complete your Logbook!

At Advance Global Recruitment, we have partnered with OPITO, Step Change in Safety, and 3T Training Services to drive the importance of Banksman Assessments and Reassessments. Holding an OPITO-certified Banksman & Slingers certification is an industry-standard expectation for working across multiple global assets.

Many candidates encounter setbacks and work restrictions due to incomplete logbooks, often because they are unaware of the necessity to ensure their assessments are complete. Understanding the challenges of maintaining logbooks and their impact on career progression is essential. Completing your logbook is crucial for advancing your career, and we are here to provide the support and guidance you need to succeed.

AGR is committed to raising awareness about the importance of maintaining the Competency Log and is reissuing electronic copies to all eligible AGR candidates. Leading this initiative is our Global Compliance Director, Danielle Wood, who stated:

“I am delighted to address this significant gap in the market. Our industry faces a considerable skills shortage, and it is crucial to take proactive steps to combat this issue. At AGR, we are dedicated to raising awareness and implementing initiatives that drive change, support talent development, and ensure a sustainable future for our sector.”

The four key stages of the Banksman Courses are:

1) Banksman and Slinger Initial Training Learners completing the Initial Training Programme will be awarded an OPITO Banksman and Slinger Initial Training certificate; this entitles the learner to progress onto supervised workplace experience. The Certificate is valid for 32 months, during which time you will complete your log book.

2) The supervised workplace experience entails a series of tasks that the learner must complete under supervision to gain relevant experience in the field. Learners are required to maintain a logbook documenting these supervised tasks, ensuring they record all activities and experiences accurately.

3) The Banksman and Slinger Competence Assessment outlines the process and criteria for learners to demonstrate their proficiency in the Banksman and Slinger role. Successful candidates will receive an OPITO Certificate of Competence, which is valid for 2 years.

4) The reassessment outlines the criteria for individuals seeking to renew their OPITO competence certification. Successful candidates will receive an OPITO Certificate of Competence, valid for 2 years.

Why is the Logbook important?

It’s a pre-requisite!

For OPITO Banksman Slinger Competence Assessment (stage 3):

You must have a valid OPITO Approved Banksman & Slinger Training (Stage 1) certificate.

You need a fully completed logbook which records your standard workplace activities.

For OPITO Banksman Slinger Competence Reassessment (Stage 4):

You must have a valid OPITO Approved Stage 3 or Stage 4 Banksman Slinger Certificate.

Having the logbook is crucial because it proves you have completed the necessary workplace training and have the required experience for the competence assessment.

We’ve teamed up with OPITO, Step Change in Safety and 3T Training Services to spread the word. Our collaborative efforts aim to provide you with the best resources and support to complete your logbook and succeed in your Banksman Slinger assessment.

Get in Touch

It was a particularly exciting visit, as ten crew members either joined or left the vessel.

These placements involved exceptional coordination and a thorough vetting process to ensure that each recruit was qualified correctly and well-prepared for the unique challenges of offshore work. The smooth onboarding of these individuals was a testament to our commitment to excellence and our ability to meet the demanding staffing needs of our key partners. By aligning the right talent within critical roles, we are proud to contribute to the efficiency and safety of GEOxyz operations. Our new crew members are from diverse locations, including Malaysia, Mexico, India, Indonesia, and the UK.

The Geo Ocean III will be conducting geophysical survey work for the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) HVDC electricity transmission link in a contract awarded by the National Grid. This was in development with Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission PLC.

The AGR team were on hand for the boarding to present our recruits with their very own AGR-branded backpacks. They were greeted by some familiar faces within the new crew. Both Zurihan Mamat from Malaysia and Oziel Gonzalez of Mexico joined for their 12th trip through AGR.

The life of an offshore worker can be challenging to understand, especially for those who have yet actually to be aboard a commercial vessel or rig. At AGR, we want our people to understand what life is like in as many offshore working environments as possible; that’s why we take every opportunity to send members of our team out to see what life at sea is like.

Last month, an opportunity fell to Account Manager Eilidh Cargill. Eilidh headed off to Suriname to meet the crew aboard the Noble Voyager, a 748-foot Drill Ship. It’s fair to say that this was no vacation; Eilidh was kept very busy for the duration of her stay on board, but the experience will be invaluable to her in her role in the future.

When recruiting for a vessel that performs such critical work as the Noble Voyager, it’s vital to find the right blend of personality and culture; it’s essential to ensure the team and the vessel operate at maximum proficiency. You’ll find that any successful ship has a cohesive and balanced culture that runs from the top and through every team member on board. Understanding that synergy is required to perform consistently at the highest level is why these visits are so important to us at AGR.

The photos Eilidh brought back clearly show how much goes into the smooth operation of these massive vessels. It relies on experienced people working as a team all day, every day. At AGR, we pride ourselves on finding the right people, but it doesn’t happen by accident; our team’s first-hand experiences help them to find the right people for the right projects.
