AGRT Success Story – Alex Edge
AGR Training are proud to be supporting our veterans retrain and use their key transferable skills.
Since we launched, our new training division we have successfully helped train hundreds of candidates and secure them positions in their chosen sector. This blog tells us Alex Edge’s story and how he managed to get a career in the Energy Industry after leaving the Royal Marines, with support from AGR Training.
Alex’s Story
Alex’s story began when he was medically discharged from the Royal Marines. After much thought Alex decided he would push for a new career in the energy industry. However, during and after his transition period Alex did not receive the appropriate support and information regarding how to get this new career off the ground which meant he was unable to secure a job within the energy industry and took an unwanted position elsewhere.
We asked Alex what attracted him to the energy sector, and he stated that: “The work life balance that the industry can offer you is second to none. The industry also rewards the workers with great packages and opportunities for growth. It was a no brainer really. My goal is to obtain a permanent rotation, and then grow my career from there.”
As someone who was determined to make this new career path a success, Alex began with a survival course which was unfortunately not getting him the work that he had hoped for. Alex finally reached out to an old friend who recommended AGR where he received advice and guidance on what courses he would need for him to achieve his goal and gain employment in the energy industry.
Alex’s Present and Future
Alex carried out one of AGRT’s bespoke training courses: AGRT Greenhand Programme. This course was completed at one of AGR’s training partners, Survivex’s Centre in Newcastle.
Upon completion, the AGR team secured Alex an offshore position within 7 days. He has already completed his first offshore trip as a Greenhand and will have set off on his second trip by the time this blog is live. Alex has this to say about his first trip:
“My first trip was 4 weeks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a great learning curve, and I was excited to put what I had learnt in my training to proper use. The training I received from AGRT made me more confident for my first trip.” Alex further said, “I had the best experience with the full team at AGRT, they were always quick to return my emails and answer all my questions, no matter how trivial they may have been. I would never have thought to carry out an Advancement Course without the expertise of AGRT.”
Alex’s story is inspiring to those who are looking for support and advice when leaving the military and how best to use their transferrable skills for the energy sector.
At AGR, we are fully aware of the skill shortage across the sector, and this has been a huge factor in our decision to open our new training division. Highlighting the skill shortage, we want to be proactive by exploring the advancement of the energy market as a career for the next generation.
Alex continued, “If anyone is looking to change career and enter the energy sector, AGRT are the best entry route to get your foot in the door. Their recommendations to ensure you are covered for all bases was fantastic, and the quality of courses were excellent. I couldn’t thank everyone involved enough.”
