10 years old and building for growth…
We are 10! Yes, ten years ago, on the 15th March 2011, AGR opened for business. We are delighted to have reached this milestone anniversary; it’s certainly been an exciting journey so far. We’d love to be gathering to celebrate with our team, the clients and our suppliers, all of whom have played a critical role in helping us build AGR over the last decade. Unfortunately, any physical celebration will need to wait, but we will be bringing you some 10th Anniversary posts and updates in the coming months.
We want to say it’s been plain sailing, but as all business owners know, that’s rarely the case. It’s fair to say we’ve come through some tumultuous times; those in our sector will recall the oil price crash in 2014-16 when the price of a barrel dropped to an astonishing $9.12! And the last 12 months has challenged all business in ways we couldn’t have imagined a year ago, far less ten years ago.
Today, AGR is thriving. We’ve proven we are resilient, and that’s no small thanks to the quality and depth of the team we have built since 2011. From very humble beginnings, we now have offices in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dubai. We have invested in our people, and we’ve supported them with ongoing investment in our technology. The commitment to deliver a first-class service to clients and candidate alike has been an enormous factor in the development of AGR.
Speaking about the AGR team, Chief Operating Officer Cameron Taylor says: “We are in a people business; we find good people for our clients. The only way we can do this consistently well is to employ the best people; they are a credit to the business and an integral part of our success over the last ten years.”
We are a team that work together and play together. As the pictures below show, we have some great memories of the very first AGR office and some of the events and trips we’ve enjoyed with one another over the years. Something we all look forward to resuming as soon as it is safe to do so.
Of course, our people are only part of the success story; without the clients, we would not be celebrating ten years in business. We have been fortunate to work with the biggest names in the sector, and for the business they give us and their loyalty, we are very grateful. Many of today’s clients have been with us from day one, testament indeed to the quality of the relationships we’ve managed to build since 2011. Likewise, our suppliers have played a pivotal role in the last ten years.
Resilience and growth can also be attributed to our diversification into the renewables sector. For the past few years, we have been building our reputation as a true energy specialist business. From the early days when Oil and Gas were the focus, we now have significant work in renewables; around 40% of our current work is in this new and flourishing sector.
All in all, we have a great network that has enabled us to build genuine business partnerships. These strong partnerships have served us well, particularly through the more challenging times, especially over the last year. Commenting on the 10th Anniversary, AGR CEO Stuart Hunter said: “It’s a fantastic milestone; the last ten years have flown in. AGR is a tremendous business with excellent people serving world-class companies in over 64 countries. There are so many people to thank. The staff in each of our offices, the wonderful clients we work with, and the supply chain support us. All of them deserve to share in our celebrations.
“However, this is just the start. We are all looking forward to the next ten years and meeting the ever-changing energy sector’s challenges. We certainly have the team, experience and infrastructure in place to be a significant contributor.”
AGR will not be resting on their laurels; in fact, we are expanding our team and our client base significantly, and we’ll bring you news of another new contract very soon. We are building for growth. As the pandemic passes, we are well placed to meet the energy sector’s needs; we will continue to provide high-quality candidates in the Oil and Gas sector. We will continue to meet the demands of the ever-expanding renewables sector.
The last ten years have been great, but we’re confident the best is yet to come as we move into our second decade.
